Man jailed after raping aunt

A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years' jail in Alice Springs for raping his aunt.

The man pleaded guilty in the Northern Territory Supreme Court in Alice Springs today to sexual intercourse without consent, deprivation of liberty and an aggravated assault upon his 23-year-old aunt last year.

The rape occurred in bushland near an Alice Springs town camp after the man had taken the woman there in a car.

Chief Justice Brian Martin told the man he had brought great shame upon his family.
