A Hobart mother-of-nine cried and thanked her lawyer today as she was spared a jail term for two home burglaries.
The Hobart Criminal Court heard Lynda Marie Carrington is now free of the drug addiction that led to her crimes.
When police questioned 36 year old Lynda Carrington over a house break-in at Penna in 2005, she made full admissions about that crime and another burglary at Otago Bay.
She also implicated the woman who helped her steal about $90,000 worth of jewellery and other items from the two homes.
The court heard Carrington's life unravelled when her mother died and she started a relationship with a man who introduced her to amphetamines.
Justice Shan Tennent said Carrington had not offended before then and, in the three years since the burglaries, had demonstrated her ability to obey the law.
Justice Tennent said the mother-of-nine had young twins to care for and she suspended Carrington's 12 month jail sentence.
