A 39-year-old man will spend at least a year in prison for repeatedly stabbing his partner at their Parkside home.
The Supreme Court heard Matthew Jackson suffered a punctured lung, four stab wounds in his back and his left thumb was almost severed in the 2007 attack.
Jamie Christopher Kelly pleaded guilty to causing serious harm to Mr Jackson, who also had to have part of the knife removed from his body.
Justice John Sulan sentenced Kelly to four years in jail, saying Kelly was truly contrite and sorry for what he had done.
Justice Sulan set a non-parole period of 12 months.
