Gangland killer Williams one step closer to appeal

Carl Williams has been granted leave to appeal against his 35-year sentence.

Melbourne underworld killer Carl Williams has been granted leave to appeal against his jail sentence.

Last year Williams was sentenced to 35 years in jail after pleading guilty to murdering three gangland rivals.

Today the Victorian Court of Appeal was told there was at least one ground which could be reasonably argued at an appeal.

Justice Marcia Neave told Williams that granting his application did not mean his appeal would be allowed, or that his sentence would be reduced.
